ARTEA, CONTRACTOR AND CO-INVESTIGATOR FOR THE CONVERSION OF THE "EX-COUVENT OF SANT'ORSOLA", AN EMBLEMICAL AND CLASSIFIED PLACE IN THE CITY OF FLORENCE (Italy)
- 17,000 m²
An architectural restructuring project conceived as a living space combining heritage and culture
Following a call for tenders by the Metropolitan City of Florence, the ARTEA Group was selected to rehabilitate the Sant'Orsola site, with the signing of a concession contract granting it use of the site for 50 years.
The Sant’Orsola complex is a former 14th-century convent built around three large courtyards, with a total area of approximately 17,000 m².
Located in the heart of Florence, Sant'Orsola is close to the Mercato Centrale di Firenze, Santa-Maria-Novella main railway station, Piazza del Duomo, San Lorenzo Basilica and the Medici Chapels.
In collaboration with the City of Florence and under the patronage of Mayor Dario NARDELLA, ARTEA will revitalize the Sant'Orsola complex by creating a genuine living space offering a range of uses and activities (both public and private):
- A school for advanced training
- A convention center and coworking space with individual and collective areas
- A museum/event space housing the tomb of Mona Lisa
- An urban garden for permaculture workshops
- Artists' studios
- A library café
- Shops and craft workshops
- A foresteria-type accommodation space
- A fitness and wellness area
- A toy library
All these infrastructures reflect the joint desire of the City and ARTEA to host activities for the various publics and local residents. At the same time, the site's history and the charm of its various courtyards and patios will be exploited to the full.
Furthermore, this project aims to contribute to the vitality of the San Lorenzo neighborhood and the city as a whole by creating a new hub for gatherings and activities that is dear to the hearts of Florentines. In its new form, this space will be designed as a new heart of the city, open to everyone: Florentines, visitors, businesspeople, and anyone who loves culture and the arts and is eager to enjoy a unique experience.
The renovation represents an investment of over 31 million euros, and will be managed in such a way as to respect the importance of this unique Tuscan heritage site.
